from Cotonou!! 2008
is the 40th anniversary of Peace Corps programs in Benin. Those of us
currently in Benin, working and volunteering for Peace Corps, are in the process
of planning a year long celebration marking this occasion. Over
the last 40 years there have been 1,673 Volunteers who have served or are
serving in Benin. You are one of those special Volunteers. We here in Benin are
trying to contact as many former Volunteers as possible to assist in our
planning of activities. A bit of Peace Corps Trivia: Benin is one of just nine
Countries that can boast as having 40 years of uninterrupted Peace Corps
service. We
are hoping to have a large celebration on/about September, 2008 and would like
you to know that you are welcome to return to Benin and be part of this exciting
time for us. Planning is still underway with the 40th Anniversary
Committee but we will let you know very soon what activities will be taking
place and when. What
we would like from you now is YOUR STORY!!
1) Where were you posted, 2) what sector were you in, 3) what years you
served, 4)what does Benin mean to you and how has your experience in Benin
shaped your life? Please take a few minutes to respond and contact us at 40thAnniversary@bj.peacecorps.gov.
In addition, if you have any suggestions to make our celebration the best
it can be, don’t hesitate to share your ideas (But also please keep in mind
that Peace Corps’ budget is still as lean as you remember.)! We
look forward to hearing from you and if you know another RPCV from Benin please
do pass this along to them, the more RPCVs we can contact the better. Thank
you from the 40th Anniversary Committee. Sheryl Cowan Country
