Receipts from Medical Fund:
Tineto (the father of Tine or Lucien- his French name) is Nestor's dad. Recently he fell seriously ill from malaria. They get malaria like we get the common cold. They are somewhat immune to it but sometimes it hit them hard. Tineto recently had a very serious case and needed to be hospitalized. Thankfully he was cured and the hospital bill was only $24! Below is one receipt that totaled a little over $10. $24 is not a lot to us but it is a huge amount to them as they spend only about a $1-$2 a day to feed themselves and their families.
Victor is Nestor's cousin. He was recently in a car accident and had internal injuries. Below is a receipt from his medical expenses and Nestor tells me that he is doing ok now. Victor is the drummer in episode 1 of the video.
6/10/05 Nestor came down with Typhoid last week. He had stomach pains, a fever, and could not sleep at night. Luckily because of the medical fund, he could go to the hospital and have his illness diagnosed and treated. If he did not have the money, he would have only been given traditional leaf infusions made by boiling leaves in hot water. Nestor was thankful for the medical treatment and he is feeling much better now.
7/14/05 When Edvige was very young she burned her arm severely when a pot of boiling water fell on it. Recently the scar tissue became severely infected. She is better now. The medical receipt is below. 15,000 CFA is only about $30.
