Dear Chris:
Thanks for your e-mail. The K-1-2 kids were enthusiastic about the
presentation and have been wrapping themselves in fabrics from Benin
and talking with drums all month. Your web-site is wonderful and is
the kind of place you can return to and always learn something new. I
purchased It Takes a Village as did the teacher which we wouldn't have
otherwise known about. I came back before the computer age so you can
imagine how very difficult it was to get much information. Still, even
now not many websites have this much on such a remote place all in one
place. I'll probably return again and again. I'm a member of the
Columbia River Peace Corps Association and have considered Friends of
Benin. It's something else that didn't exist on my return. Thanks
again. Elizabeth (Betsy) Samuels (Hyde).

Wow! Your website is absolutely amazing! I read all of your journal
entries/ short stories. You are a fantastic writer. I am going in for
my PC interview next week. I hope to serve in Africa. I volunteered on
my own for three months in Ghana, and three months was not enough
time! Plus I was paying my own way. The PC thinks I'm doing them a
favor, but really it's gonna be the other way around. Thanks again for
your very informative and fun site!!

Dear Chris:
I am preparing a presentation for my daughter's K-1-2 class for
tomorrow. I really appreciated being able to jog my memory. I was a
PCV in Porto Novo from 1975 to 1977. I'm thinking of teaching them how
to count to ten in Fon. They already know how to in Swahili. I'm
looking forward to going back to the site again when I have more time.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Lisa,
I actually participated in a Worm Week in Benin but I didn't orgainze
it so I can't give you much details. Stacia Bippus is the one who
coordinated it. It took place during the week of 2/14/97 in Illaro ( a
village near Pobé). I have fond memories of it. We did all sorts of
diffirent
activities like making Tofu, having discussions about how to avoid
Guinea Worm, demonstrations on how to use the water filter etc. If you
need to know more than that, post a message to the Friends of Benin
e-groups at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FriendsofBenin/ to try to find Stacia as
I have lost touch with her. Also present that I can remember were
Colleen Renk, and Carol Brillhart. Ask for them too on the list server
and I'm sure someone will be able to give you a contact.
Bonne Chance!
Chris

Chris,
This website is awesome. I have been interested in Africa for many
years. I served in Kenya and Tanzania as a missionary from 1999 to
2000. Recently I made a trip to Togo and Benin and really enjoyed
being in the bush with the Beninese people. Thanks for all of your
effort in make this website top-notch. I have really enjoyed the
stories.

Your site has been incredibly helpful as I prepare for my 3 month trip
to Benin. Before finding your site I really had no idea of what to
expect in Benin! I hope to know some basic Fon phrases before I go so
I can at least -try- to communicate with the locals! Thanks for
putting so much work into the site.
