Le vaudou:
.WAV Files Bokono- the Fah priest or diviner, soothsayer, fortune teller etc. If you have a question about the past, present or future that you want answered, you can go to a Bocono (Bablao in Yoruba) to have your Fah read. Fah is a type of divination called geomantic divination. By throwing a string of seed pods or cowerie shells, a sign is revealed which the Bocono interprets to give you answers to your questions. Spirits and destiny intervene in the process. It's a very complex and fascinating ritual. I'd suggest that anyone who goes to Benin ask to have his or her Fah read. Na mo bokono. E na kan fah nu mi- I'm going to the Fah priest. He is going to read my Fah (destiny). Xwetenu vodundsile na du we? - When are the Voodoo initiates going to dance?- Every village has Voodoo convent. A Voodoo convent consists of a temple and a Vodungan (Voodoo priest). The priest trains initiates (Vodunsi) to become adepts of his god and each priest specializes in a particular Voodoo god. A few times a year the Vodungan organizes a public ceremony in the streets where the Vodunsi will come and dance in their regalia to drumming music. It is fascinating, however there aren't any schedules as to when these ceremonies take place. They are almost never for tourist so be assured what you are seeing is authentic. If you happen upon one, consider yourself lucky and stay as long as you can. Note- that you must ask permission before taking pictures and be prepared to pay a few thousand CFA ( a few dollars) as an offering to the God for the privilege. Vodunsile, ye na duwe egbe do vodunxome. - The Voodoo initiates are going to dance today at the Voodoo convent. Tohossu, Agasu, Zangbeto, Xeviosso, Gu, Sakpata, - Different Voodoo Gods worshiped by the Fon.
